Welcome To Mornington
The grandeur of its coastline, glimpses of wind filled sails, distant views of a shimmering city skyline and the heritage of the district give Mornington its unique character. Main Street Mornington has retained its historic maritime flavour yet offers all the services and facilities expected in the 21st century. It has the cosy feel of a seaside resort. Seven day shopping makes it an ideal destination for those with special interests in fine foods, antiques and art.
The Wednesday Main Street Mornington Market is a traditional street market and is held every Wednesday, rain or shine. It is the longest running street market in Victoria - nearly 30 years old. There are a number of secluded swimming beaches including Mothers’ Beach, which overlooks the magnificent Mornington Harbour, with it’s safe beach and picnic area. It is a favourite spot for both locals and tourists alike.
There is no shortage of sporting facilities. Local tennis and bowls clubs welcome visitors and golf courses at Mt. Martha and Mornington Golf Club offer challenging fairways with bay views. With excellent boat launching facilities at the Snapper Point jetty and boat hire, fishing is a popular past time throughout the year and highlighted with the annual Snapper competition. Two major attractions include the outstanding regional gallery the Mornington Peninsula Arts Center and The Briars, an historic homestead built in the 1860s with its unique collection of Napoleonic memorabilia. The wildlife refuges, bushwalks, restaurant, vineyard and picnic grounds make ‘Briars’ a great family outing.
The Mornington Chamber of Commerce is holding the 7th Annual Mornington Bay Run on Sunday 29th July 2012 raising money for Peter MacCallum Cancer Research. Visit www.morningtonbayrun.com.au for further information.
